The IU competitive debate program is recruiting for the 2012-2013 season. Do you enjoy researching major political controversies, arguing passionately about issues of importance, and honing your public speaking and critical thinking skills? If the answer is yes, then competitive debate is for you!

As active members of our program we will build you into powerful orators and researchers, all while you challenge other Big 10 schools and Ivy League Universities (yes Harvard) in tournament style debates. Shiny trophies may very well be in your future.

This season’s topic will have you engaged in discussions about government restrictions on and incentives for energy production in the United States. Team members will learn about issues such as U.S. oil extraction in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, tax credits to promote photovoltaic solar panels, and natural gas fracturing restrictions.

Our team is open to all undergraduate students who want to be a part of a competitive team atmosphere. Join us during our callout meetings:

Wednesday August 22 and Wednesday August 29. 7:00-8:30 PM in SPEA 276.  We will provide pizza, while you provide the intellectual energy and drive.

We need your  help! Scholar Corps— a student organization committed to connecting IU undergraduates to volunteer opportunities related to their major and/or interests— is a finalist to receive a $5,500 award in Zipcar credits. Zipcar is a car sharing service, and if Scholar Corps wins the award, they will have an easy means to transport their members to and from volunteer opportunities throughout the Bloomington area.  The contest is based on voting ,so please go to http://apps.facebook.com/students-with-drive/ , click “Vote” in the green box on the upper right hand side, go down to the Community Service group, and cast your vote for Scholar Corps today!  Please Note: You must use Internet Explorer to cast your vote. Other web browsers do  not seem to work. Also, you will have to “like” the page on facebook in order to cast your vote.

A few other notes:

1)      Scholar Corps is the only representative from Indiana University. So Please share this with as many friends as possible to show your pride for IU!

2)      Since it began in the spring of 2009, Scholar Corps volunteers have logged over 3,500 volunteer hours on campus and in the Bloomington Community.

3)      Are you interested in volunteering? Join Scholar Corps if you are not already a member. Go to http://www.indiana.edu/~iub21csc/ for more information.

My name is Greg Mergruen and I am shooting a short film for the Campus Moviefest Film Festival coming at the end of March and I am looking for more crew members. Our film is a modernized version of a classic fairy tale, and we are in need of talented production students to help bring the story of the film to life.

If you are interested in assisting in the project, please email the Producer Lisa Yang (lhyang@indiana.edu) or the Director Greg Mergruen (gmergrue@indiana.edu) for more details.
