The market’s leading broadcasting company, WSBT-TV, is looking for a News Producer. This individual will produce content for newscasts and web by researching and writing stories, editing video, building graphics and filling in for other positions as needed.

Excellent news judgment is required; as are creative writing and producing techniques; solid understanding of story distribution across on-air and on-line platforms; and the ability to work well both alone and under stressful/deadline-driven situations. This individual will also monitor wires, news feeds and scanners for stories. A College degree in Communications or Journalism is preferred, along with at least one year of experience producing news. Live and breaking news experience is preferred; along with a knowledge of Windows- based computer systems. A valid driver’s license is also required.

 

Essential Functions

• Daily preparation of newscasts

• Prioritize and organize newscasts

• Write news stories for cut-ins

• Responsible for writing clearly, concisely and conversationally

• Must maintain working knowledge of current events, community issues, and extensive list of local contacts

• Attend and actively participate in editorial meetings

• Able to quickly, accurately and calmly handle decision-making process during the on-air process

• Post and update content on the web site and social media sites each day

• Engage viewers using social media

• Accurate video editing with an eye for visual elements and graphics that make stories understandable to the viewer

• Distribute scripts

• Make beat calls

• Roll teleprompter during newscasts

• Communicate with the web staff during breaking news

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

• Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

• Basic knowledge of newsroom software

• Ability to write clearly and accurately

• Strong communication skills

• Good news judgment

• Maintain strong journalistic ethics

• Able to be creative, and create compelling and memorable newscasts

• Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment

• Ability to handle and adjust accordingly to last-minute changes

• Ability to generate story ideas daily

• Strong initiative and attention to detail

• Strong research skills, conduct online researching using various search engines • Ability to keep up with national and local news/weather is required

• Ability to post content to web and mobile platforms

• Ability to work independently and with little supervision

• Knowledge of how social media outlets work

• Understanding of and ability to follow and enforce the journalistic code of ethics • Able to edit video and audio on industry standard equipment
