  • America ReFramed Intern (Fall 2012)

POV, in partnership with WGBH World Channel, is producing a new series titled America ReFramed. The new program showcases documentary films that focus on American stories which emphasize diversity, personal narratives, and new perspectives that don’t usually get featured in mainstream media. Qualified candidates will work closely with Series Producer in all aspects of the creation and management of the program.

Internship positions begin IMMEDIATELY and will run through January 31, 2013. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaising and coordinating with independent producers, filmmakers, distributors for program deliverables;
  • Building and managing submission and programming database;
  • Building and managing deliverables tracking grids and library;
  • Coordinating production and post production schedules and tasks with AmDoc, outside production company(ies) and vendors, PR Consultant, Series Host;
  • Screening programmed films and selecting excerpts for promo;
  • Managing and coordinating program’s social media activities and infrastructure;
  • Working with other interns and/or part-time staff as needed;
  • Additional related production office responsibilities as required (i.e. filing, answering phone calls, petty cash management, generating simple expense reports, etc.)
  • Documentary Series Communications and Marketing Intern (Fall 2012; Winter/Spring 2013)

POV promotes and publicizes 16 or more films a season. We need motivated individuals with an interest in documentaries and the media, who are eager to learn about publicity and marketing. Required skills: Administrative experience and computer skills a must, excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple projects. Knowledge of Abode Photoshop helpful. Internship duties would include:

    • Developing and maintaining media databases using Cision, Filemaker Pro and Excel
    • Researching and tracking press clips to create detailed reports for filmmakers, funders and staff
    • Updating filmmaker itinerary with press interview schedule
    • Managing internal and external distribution of press releases and media alerts
    • Assisting with the coordination of press kit and DVD mailings to national media
    • Order and log all television and radio interviews in POV tape library
    • Help tweet for the POV pressroom
    • Assisting department personnel as needed
  • Documentary Series Community Engagement & Education Intern (Fall 2012; Winter/Spring 2013)

Interns will have the opportunity to work with communities around the country to raise awareness around the social issues presented in POV films. Through assisting in organizing community screenings and producing accompanying educational materials, interns will get firsthand experience in engaging audiences prior to and well beyond a film’s broadcast.

The intern will work under the supervision of POV’s Community Engagement & Education coordinators. The supervisors will meet with the intern on a weekly basis to check in on the progress of his/her work.

Note: The Community Engagement & Education department is looking for interns with strong writing skills.

Duties:

    • Assist in research for the development of educational materials (discussion guides, lesson plans, reading lists)
    • Support POV’s communities on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks
    • Conduct research on prospective community partners
    • Initiate contact with community partners to organize screenings and discussion events
    • Maintain audience evaluation database
    • Provide administrative support for the department, such as mailing out screening packages and processing event applications and evaluations
    • Support the preparation of conference proposals and grant reports as needed
    • Other administrative duties as needed
  • Documentary Series Development Intern (Fall 2012; Winter/Spring 2013)

The development intern will provide support to POV’s development and business affairs team. The internship is designed to provide a comprehensive experience in arts management and programming. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning more about development or nonprofit management.

The intern will work under the supervision of POV’s development coordinator. The supervisor will meet with the intern on a weekly basis to check in on the progress of his/her work.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to analyze information and create clear written materials
  • Interest in fundraising
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and FileMaker Pro

Duties:

  • Conduct research on individual, foundation, government and corporate prospects.
  • Create prospect profiles and briefing documents.
  • Support the preparation and production of proposals, reports and presentations as needed.
  • Support and attend special events as needed.
  • Data entry.
  • Generate reports and mail merges.
  • Prepare general correspondence.
  • Provide administrative support for the Development department, including telephone calls, emails, filing, faxing and copying.
  • Such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Documentary Series Digital Intern (Fall 2012; Winter/Spring 2013)

Interns in POV’s Webby Award-winning Digital department will get an inside peek at POV’s 25th season of independent documentaries on PBS while researching and producing content for POV’s popular film companion sites on pbs.org, blogs and social media.

Duties:

  • Multimedia production (Photoshop and Final Cut) for http://www.pbs.org/pov
  • Assisting in developing features for documentary companion websites
  • Supporting POV’s communities on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks
  • Organizing chats with filmmakers and experts
  • Moderating viewer comments
  • Researching and writing posts and features for POV’s blog, Facebook page and website
