4795 – Producer, The Weekly Special, Radio and Television Services


Job Summary: Creative responsibility and authority to conceive and manage WTIU’s flagship public affairs program, The Weekly Special (www.theweeklyspecial.org); oversees all aspects, including web, social media, record for local and statewide broadcast, guest selection, stories, events, and promotion. Independence for both the content and production decisions for the ongoing weekly TV program, including: program topics over single or multiple episodes; what expertise is available and coordination of interviews and on-air appearances; what guests are desirable and coordination of appearances; scheduling/producing episodes, while also planning future episodes. Works independently to create a weekly television program which requires a working knowledge of events throughout southern Indiana, area artists and performers, and studio management. The responsibilities are complex – from deciding on topics, content, and guests, to addressing logistical and technical aspects of production, to long –range planning. The impact of the position is broad, reflecting on the entire campus, from employees to the Board of Trustees. Viewers are located throughout all of Indiana, so the accountability is considerable for consumers and government from local to state levels. Supervises several full-time and hourly employees.

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field, three years program production related experience, and/or including three years experience with videography, lighting, audio, teleprompter, NLE editing, and studio setups. Valid driver’s license required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Creativity, long lead planning skills, broad knowledge of Indiana, and willingness to learn about parts of society he/she may not necessarily have at the outset; broadcast level video editing skillset; ability to manage projects and digital workflow in a deadline-driven production environment; proven ability to lead a regular television series and multiple stakeholders; and ability to work both independently and closely with producers/directors/engineers within a deadline-driven, live, production atmosphere.

Preferred: Ability to produce high quality video story-telling.
